Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior political figure commented the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
