Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
