19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first title after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
