The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a major prize-giving event nears, there’s always a demand for the addition fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences in the world and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
